Vivary
Vivary is an iOS app for plant identification and care. It names the plants on your shelf, in your garden, and out in the wild, right on your phone, and helps you look after them over time. When it's confident it says so, and when it isn't it says that too, instead of guessing.
The company is Vivary LLC, registered in Colorado. It's a one-person operation today: I build the app, train the models, and write the words.
What we're building
The core of Vivary runs entirely on the device. Identification, your plant collection, and care schedules work offline, with no account and nothing uploaded. A few features need more reasoning than a phone can do alone, so they run in the cloud: chatting with Ken, the in-app naturalist; health checks and diagnosis; and long-tail identification for plants the on-device model can't place. Those cloud features are powered by hosted large-language-model inference, and we're upfront in the app about exactly when that line gets crossed.
Stage
Vivary is in active development. A private TestFlight beta opens in waves starting August 2026, with a public App Store release to follow. We're also building the training-data pipeline behind the identification and care models, which is where a good deal of our cloud compute goes today.
Infrastructure
Cloud usage scales in three phases: batch large-language-model calls for preparing and auditing training data now, the in-app assistant and diagnostic features during the beta, and steady inference as the user base grows after launch. We expect that volume to climb with each milestone rather than stay flat.
Founder
I'm Dallas Cook, founder and sole developer of Vivary. I'm a gardener in Denver, Colorado, and I built this app because the plant identifiers I'd used were confident in ways they hadn't earned, and thin on the tools I actually wanted for keeping plants alive. Every feature started as something I needed in my own greenhouse.
